This lesson will be a “hands on” lesson. In this lesson we as a class will examine different events during the Revolutionary War through the use of pictures, painting, and other visual image media. The point of this lesson is to draw on visual images to paint a solid picture for students of the conditions and scenes associated with the major events of the War we have been studying. Students will be asked to research a particular event, and to utilize various mediums of artwork for their research. In the final stage of this lesson students will be required to create a slide show of the artwork they have researched. This slide show should be able to create a very real depiction of the event topic, and allow for others to have a solid understanding of the conditions for which the event took place. Ultimately we as a class will look at these slide shows to gain a better understanding of conditions surrounding the events examined.
Slide Show Project:
Each student will be assigned a random event from the Revolution. Once the event has been assigned, students will be required to research the events for artwork, pictures, and any other images which help tell the story of the event. In order to gather this research, students will use print media, the internet, and any other medium which they feel would help them in telling their event’s story through images. Once students have collected 10-15 images, they will then be asked to combine these images into a slide show, and utilize the web 2.0 tool Showbeyond.com. Each student will then be asked to present their slide show to the class to help teach the class in images about the particular event they researched.
Resources:
For this lesson students will be required to use Showbeyond.com for their story board. They will also be required to use the internet, printed texts, and other image mediums in doing their research. Below is an example I created on the Revolutionary war from start to finish.
